I was born in Texas, about 2 miles from the Gladewater Rodeo grounds, and later my family moved only a few blocks from the grounds. At times we walked to the rodeo on those hot June nights. The lights were bright... the crowd was loud... the cowboys rode the beautiful horses. They gave away shetland ponies all saddled up and ready to those lucky (or unlucky) to have the right ticket stub number. My dad loved the rodeo. I loved horses. As a child I drew horses and dreamed horses. My other loves at the time were art and photography. I would draw in the margins of my homework and sometimes get in trouble.
